The Youngs visit South Africa

JR and JoAnn Young visit Charlie in South Africa

Some of you are aware that my wife JoAnn and I just returned from Italy and South Africa. In Italy, we shared along with Daniel Tocchini, David and Susan Fletcher, and Davide Zaccariello at a conference for Italian pastors. Then JoAnn and I flew to Johannesburg, South Africa and met our friend Theo Geyser who pastors a church in Stellenbosch. We took a four day holiday with Theo at a game reserve, which he arranged for us.

.

We flew back to Cape Town and then spent a week and half just north of there in Stellenbosch. We spent a day with Missionary Charlie Johnson from Long Beach Christian Fellowship and he showed us his world of working with people infected and affected with AIDS and then we had another day with Charlie and Dr. Becky Khun, who works with GLOBAL LIFEWORKS. Both Dr. Becky and Charlie are doing a great work. Charlie is loved and respected by everyone because they all get that he is there out of love and that he doesn't have a hidden agenda. We heard this from the poorest in the Black township of Kayamandi and from white South African medical doctors.

I was able to attend a meeting with Dr. Becky and some of the medical staff at Stellenbosch Hospital with government people and medical officials. They all said that they were interested in working with Dr. Becky. Dr. Becky did an outstanding job presenting her proposal for "partnering" with them to address the problem of AIDS.

I spoke with a medical doctor in Theo's assembly who is also keen on working with Dr. Becky and
GLOBAL LIFEWORKS. Their best projections are that they can begin to get government help with prescription drugs by February 04. On the day we left for home, Pastor Theo had secured use of a piece of property with a large home on it, which is part of a larger property that the church will lease and build on. For now, Theo wants Charlie to have use of that home and to be able to begin the clinic work there. at very reasonable rent.

In summary, the work there is going well, very real progress is taking place, there is cooperation on all fronts with GLOBAL LIFEWORKS and God is moving in South Africa. Pastor Theo Geyser and his assembly, Stellenbosch Gemente, are real allies and they are helping our mission greatly, as we partner with them to help with the enormous problem of AIDS in southern Africa.

Love In Christ the liberator,

JR & JoAnn
